In this conversation, Suhrab will talk about migration literature and poetry and read from his recent publication, the Eighth Crossing.

The Eighth Crossing is a real example of how words and poetry migrate which maps a journey of border crossings from Afghanistan to Europe. The talk will be broadcasted live through our facebook page.

Suhrab Sirat (1990) is a published poet, writer, and journalist from Afghanistan and lives in the UK. He has a bachelor’s degree in Persian Language and Literature from Balkh University, Afghanistan.

Suhrab’s first poetry collection was published when he was 19. Since then, he has published four poetry books and is one of the known poets in Afghanistan. He won the first literature prize of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for Women Rights 2009. Sirat was also awarded the first prize for Qand-e-Parsi, 2011, a prestigious literature organization in Persian speaking countries. Suhrab has also written the first lyrics for the first Afghan female rapper criticizing patriarchy and taboos. He has represented Afghanistan at the Rio International Literary Festival (FLUPP) in 2013. Apart from his Literature activities and achievements, he has extensive experience working with major media networks such as the BBC in Afghanistan. The conversation will be lead by Gulabuddin Sukhanwar, the initiator of Literature for inclusion at the House of Literature in Trondheim. He is also a member of the academic committee for literature at the Arts Council Norway.

This event is part of Human Rights Week 2021 and a collaboration between the House of Literature in Trondheim and Amnesty International Region Midt.
