Recent events in Europe point to strong dissatisfaction with democracy in Europe among citizens. The Yellow Vests protest on the streets in France and elsewhere. Voters turn to far right populists and autocrats to voice their discontent. This raises several questions: Are citizens in Europe fed up with democracy? Is their anger directed at the system as a whole? How widespread is this disenchantment? How do we know? What is it that feeds this negativity about democracy?
NTNU presents key experts on European politics and public opinion to present their views on these issues, followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience.
This discussion is part of RECONNECT – Reconciling Europe with its Citizens through Democracy and Rule of Law, a Horizon2020 project funded by the European Commission under grant number 770142.
