War in Ukraine: what will its victory or defeat mean for Europe and Norway?
Russia’s brutal war of aggression on Ukraine has been waging for almost three years, and still no just and lasting peace seems in sight.
Drawing on his own personal experiences about life in Ukraine in times of war, the internationally well-known Ukrainian scholar Roman Petrov will share his views on current dynamics on and off the battlefield and discuss what a Ukrainian victory or defeat will mean for Europe and Norway from a security and geopolitical angle.
The conversation – held in English – will be moderated by Mădălina Dobrescu, Associate Professor of European Studies at NTNU and principal investigator of REDEMOS, a large-scale research project on EU democracy support towards Eastern Europe.
We look forward to thought-provoking reflections by our two experts and a lively discussion with the audience.
Roman Petrov is Professor of Law at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and currently University of Hamburg Fellow 2024/2025 at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS). He is an expert on EU law at the Parliament of Ukraine and frequently advises other state institutions in Ukraine, including the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice.
Mădălina Dobrescu is Associate Professor of European Studies and Onsager Fellow at the Institute of Historical and Classical Studies (IHK) at NTNU and principal investigator and coordinator of the REDEMOS project. She is one of Norway’s leading experts on political development in Eastern Europe.
